Will Mitsubishi Bring its Compact Truck and Cargo Van Here?

An outdated, ridiculous law may prevent Mitsubishi from importing vehicles to the U.S. The company would like to bring its compact truck, the Triton and Delica cargo van to the states.

Back in the 1960s, U.S. chickens were subject to a steep import tax in France and Germany. In return, the U.S. struck back with a 25-percent tax on imported pickup trucks and commercial vans, effective for all nations. The excessive tax makes all companies importing these types of vehicles much less competitive than similar American-built vehicles. This tax is the reason that many foreign brands have moved manufacturing facilities here, avoiding the fees.

Mitsubishi would like to increase its variety offered in the states, but these types of roadblocks make that task a huge undertaking. Its Delica, a small cargo van currently sold only in Japan, would compete with the likes of the Ford Transit Connect. For its small truck, Mitsubishi offers the Triton, which compares to a Toyota Tacoma.

Mitsubishi is trying to get creative on how it can import the vehicles. “It’s very difficult, but we’re thinking of different ideas,” says Mitsubishi North American CEO Shin Kurihara.

This is protectionist legislation at work. We are protecting Chevy Silvarado, Ford F-150, Dodge Ram. However two of the three companies went into bankruptcy anyway. How did that work out. Now we are left with no light weight choices at a low price. Tacoma’s, Colorado’s and Ranger’s are as expensive as full size trucks and the all suck gas. Now the Obama administration call Ford and makes them pull their Advertisement that says they are the only American manufacturer that did not accept a bailout. If there is someone who still thinks this is a free country. You have been brainwahed! Ypu are the ones who like getting 15 mpg. Drink anther Bud and toss it in the gutter instead of the middle of the road, and convince yourself that you are a good ole boy and not a closeminded Redneck.

It is very unfortunate that instead of helping business succeed in the United States, we compose taxes to drive them out and go to countries that are not so strict on the taxes laws.Cargo Vans are very useful, and instead of driving them out of the country, we should help embrace them.coventry van rental
