Porsche is sending 30 of its cars to the track, and it wants you to come along for the ride: the German automaker is teaming up with Forza Motorsport 4 and unveiling a 30-car downloadable expansion pack for the driving sim.
In the battle of the driving simulator games, two names appear above the rest–Forza Motorsport and Gran Turismo–with Forza Motorsport 4 only available on the Xbox 360 and Gran Turismo 5 available only on the PlayStation 3. Both games have an arsenal of cars for players to drive, from cheap hot hatches to supercars and racing prototypes. But neither have any Porsches (save for a handful of RUF cars in Gran Turismo), thanks to an exclusive deal between Porsche and Electronic Arts, the makers of the Need for Speed franchise.
But that’s apparently starting to change. Porsche has (at least temporarily) opened up the license to Turn 10 Studios and its Forza Motorsport 4 Xbox 360 game.
Current Forza Motorsport 4 owners can purchase the package through Xbox Live for 1600 Microsoft Points (about $20), and drive cars ranging from the humble 914 to low-volume supercars like the Carrera GT and 1987 959, to race cars like the 2007 911 GT3-RSR.
Considering that Forza already offers drivers the ability to drive tracks like Circuit de la Sarthe, Road Atlanta, the Nurburgring, and Dunsfold Park/Top Gear Circuit, we could think of worse ways to spend Memorial Day weekend than flogging a Porsche 911 GT2 RS around Hammerhead in high definition.
