It’s that time of the month again. Yes, it’s time for monthly sales, and Volkswagen is reporting in with a February sales total of 21,461 vehicles sold (up 18.5 percent).
The Jetta continued its sales volume dominance with 10,494 sedans and 2097 SportWagens, or 12,591 in total. Both the A5 and current A6 generations are included in the figures, and 12,591 units makes up nearly 60 percent of VW’s February sales and is 60.8-percent up year-over-year. Through February, the Jetta has accounted for 60.3 percent of Volkswagen’s entire United States sales.
Growth was experienced throughout the rest of the lineup, save for the discontinued New Beetle and Passat. The CC claimed 2329 customers (up 68.4 percent), and the Golf (1089 units) and GTI (1383 units) teamed up for 2472 sales total (up 18.4 percent). Over 57 percent of all Golfs sold in February were TDI diesel variants, a record split for the compact hatchback.
The sun-happy Eos went through 422 convertibles (up 18.9 percent). The New Beetle Convertible dominated the New Beetle Coupe with a 203 to 53 victory, and combined, New Beetles registered 256 units for an 85.3-percent drop.
As is customary with outgoing vehicles, the Passat left dealer lots a paltry 71 times in February (56 sedans and 15 wagons). In all, that’s a plunge of 95.6 percent, but Volkswagen remains bullish on its NMS…er, 2012 Passat. The new midsize sedan is due this fall.
Over in CUV/SUV/minivan land, the Tiguan landed 2172 sales (up 28.5 percent). The Touareg, presumably benefiting from its refreshed 2011 models, sold 438 midsize SUVs (up 53.7 percent). The Chrysler-derived Routan didn’t fare as well, scoring 710 for a decline of 36.6 percent in February.
In February, 19.6 percent of all Volkswagens sold were TDI-powered.
