Following a series of votes that occurred over the weekend, it seemed highly unlikely that members of the United Auto Workers would approve of a revised contract with Ford Motor Company. Indeed, by late Monday, both the UAW and Ford announced the contract’s rejection.

According to a release issued by the UAW, nearly 70 percent of members in manufacturing positions and 75 percent of skilled trade workers rejected the agreement.

“Our membership has spoken,” said UAW vice president Bob King. “We appreciate the participation of our Ford members who took the time to debate the modifications and cast their vote. The ratification process proves once again that the membership is the highest authority in our union and we are respectful of the final outcome.”

“Ford is disappointed that the additional changes were not ratified,” said Joe Hinrichs, Ford’s group vice president of manufacturing and labor affairs. “The additional modifications we sought recently were designed to honor pattern bargaining and provide Ford with similar additional efficiencies as those ratified this year for our domestic competitors.”

Although the contract also included guarantees for future product to be built in the U.S, UAW leaders don’t plan on negotiating another deal in the near future.

“While we will not be returning to the bargaining table,” said King, “we will work with Ford on a daily basis in an effort to keep new products coming into our plants.”

Here we go again, the union crapping in the same plate they eat from! You would think in this day and age of massive lay offs these people would be content to just have a job!
