The engines in question involve the 3.5-liter V-6 and 4.6-liter V-8 mills used in the GS350, GS450h, GS460, IS350, LS460, LS46 L, and LS600h L, along with the Japanese-market Toyota Crown model. According to the automaker, the engines are having trouble with their valve springs, causing rough idling and abnormal noises.

In rare instances, vehicles equipped with the engines listed above may stall while running, according to Lexus. A contact at Lexus told us the automaker is “currently investigating the reports.” According to Lexus, there are some 137,000 vehicles in the U.S. that are affected by the issue.

Lexus will do whatever it can to ensure that our customers’ inconvenience is minimized as much as possible, decide on the details of any action, and inform our customers promptly,” the automaker said in a statement. “Lexus is moving quickly to resolve the situation, and will announce an appropriate remedy as soon as possible.”

What in the world is going on at Toyota? Has it caught the recall bug that afflicted Ford and GM for decades?
