The Toyota Camry took a commanding lead in August’s midsize sales race with 44,713 units sold. That’s more than 6000 more than the Honda Accord, which also posted an impressive tally of 38,559 sales . The Camry’s year-to-date numbers is now 287,119 units to the second-place Accord’s 256,926 units. Meanwhile, Nissan sold 30,976 Altimas for a third-place finish.
Ford sold 24,653 Fusions for a fourth place finish and the automaker says demand is rapidly growing in the West. The Hyundai Sonata and Chevrolet Malibu took fifth and sixth, with 16,917 and 16,890 sold, respectively. The Kia Optima dropped one spot from July’s rankings (15,199 units sold) while Volkswagen sold 10,194 Passats.
The last four spots also remained unchanged from July’s midsize results. With 10,139 units sold, the Chrysler 200 had a comfortable lead over the Dodge Avenger (6351 units sold). The Mazda6 and Subaru Legacy sold 4249 and 3954 units, respectively.
