The Toyota Camry was again the best-selling midsizer in September, moving 31,871 units. The Honda Accord was second with sales of 25,176 units, while the Nissan Altima rounded out the top three with 21,221 sales.
The Ford Fusion landed in fourth place with sales of 19,972 units, representing a significant gain over September last year’s 12,300 sales. Next in line was the Chevrolet Malibu, which sold 14,487 units for the month. The Hyundai Sonata wasn’t far behind with sales of 13,872. The Hyundai Sonata’s platform-mate Kia Optima also finished September with five-digit sales, at 11,647 units sold.
The Chrysler 200 and Volkswagen Passat swapped positions from August, with the 200 selling 9583 units to the Volkswagen Passat’s 7900 units. That position made the Volkswagen Passat the meat in a Chrysler Group sandwich, as the Dodge Avenger finished 10th with 5099 sales. Despite relatively low sales volume, the Mazda6 continues to see gains over last year, with September sales of 3168 units up significantly from the 1403 units sold the same period last year. The Subaru Legacy rounds out the list with 2847 units sold.
