2011 Ford Mustang V6 Front Three Quarter

Take one V-6 Mustang and one Bristol Motor Speedway, and you have a challenge. Tomorrow, Ford will attempt to lap the 0.533-mile oval 1000 times with a 305-horsepower V-6 Mustang. The catch? The Mustang only gets one tank of fuel to travel the 533 miles.

Ford is inviting fans to guess how far the Mustang will go at Mustang1000lapchallenge.com. If you pick the correct number of laps, you’ll be entered into a drawing to win a 2011 Mustang V-6.

As we’ve reported, the EPA’s 31 mpg highway fuel rating means the 16-gallon tank should last 496 miles. It will be close; the Mustang will need to average 33 mpg to hit the magic number. Think it can happen? Should Porsche have been challenged, too? Sound off below.

They were probably arrogant enough to get one right off the line, likely with not even the PDI miles. I predict this will be another of Ford’s failures, not unlike the ‘Edsel’. With that said, they still didn’t take taxpayer bailouts…

How many miles does the car have on it? Assuming it is broken in, 33mpg average is not out of the question.
