The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals objected to Dodge‘s Tent Sale commercial, saying the automaker needed to lose the chimp. It seems the automaker may have taken things a little too seriously.
Last month, we reported that PETA asked Dodge to pull an advertisement featuring a chimpanzee. In the spot, the primate, dressed in a suit that patterned after Evel Knievel’s wardrobe, walks into the frame, pushes a detonator plunger, and triggers a wave of confetti. PETA objected to the continued use of chimps as actors, noting they’re often abused behind the scenes.
We’re wondering if PETA has similar objections over transparent chimpanzee actors. True to its word, Dodge altered the commercial to exclude the animal, but the end result isn’t exactly what we expected. The chimp’s suit — with no chimp within — still walks towards the detonator, while the voice over suggests we’re looking at an invisible monkey. The joys of post-production and computer graphics…
Although this looks bizarre upon first viewing, those familiar with the story/debacle behind the ad may find it somewhat witty. PETA, however, may not…

This commercial may be one of the best political responses ever.
People. Eat. Tasty. Animals. And if you’re lucky, the seats in your car are lined in them. This is bailout money put to good use in my opinion…:) Nice
Next thing you know, PETA will argue that actors are taking jobs from chimps! BTW, I thought the commercial was great!
