Stretched XF: Jaguar Releases Photos of XF Sportbrake via Twitter

Jaguar has used Twitter to share photos of a new car called the XF Sportbrake. The car, which is shown with camouflage tape from the B-pillar back, is essentially a wagon version of the XF luxury sedan. Jaguar hasn’t released much information on the car, although its Twitter feed includes quips like, “Achieving balance in life is by no means easy…”

The name most likely is a reference to the term shooting brake, typical connoting a sleek two-door hatchback or wagon design. The XF Sportbrake’s profile is remarkably similar to that of the Cadillac CTS Sport Wagon and Acura TSX Sport Wagon. The long roof tapers slightly before meeting a small roof spoiler. The fact that the taillights don’t fit properly points to the fact that this test mule is still in the development stages.

It’s unknown whether Jaguar will put the XF Sportbrake into production, and whether such a car would be sold on our shores. The last Jaguar wagon sold here was the X-Type wagon, but it didn’t prove a hit with American consumers — fewer than 2000 copies of the wagon were sold here. Those sales figures don’t bode well for the chances of an XF Sportbrake coming to America, but Jaguar could surprise us. Expect more information at a future auto show.
