If you want the most powerful version of a Mercedes-Benz car, pick the AMG model. If you want even more performance than that, look for the extremely limited-run Black Series models. A new one is just around the corner, as evidenced by these spy photos of a C63 AMG Black Series coupe from our colleagues at Motor Trend. It will be a higher-performance version of the recently unveiled 2012 C63 AMG Coupe.
This will be only the fourth Black Series car ever, following the 400-horsepower, Europe-only SLK55 AMG Black Series, the 500-horsepower CLK63 AMG, and the 661-horsepower SL65 AMG. As with those cars, we expect the C63 Black Series to feature a boatload more horsepower, flared fenders and carbon-fiber bodywork, firmer suspension, and a skinnier curb weight. A new trunklid spoiler, enlarged wheel arches, and unique wheels are already visible in the spy photos.
The 6.2-liter V-8 in the standard C63 AMG produces 451 horsepower, and cars equipped with the Performance Package make 481. To stand out from the base car, then, a Black Series would need at least 500 horsepower — perhaps close to 550 horsepower.
