We previously spotted the next Audi RS4 Avant being put through its paces on the Nürburgring, and now our colleagues at Motor Trend have snapped pictures of Audi testing another go-fast wagon in Sweden. The car seen here is the next RS6 Avant, an identity betrayed by the giant brakes, flared-out fenders, and subtle aerodynamic add-ons of this partially camouflaged tester.
The new RS6 should offer at least 500 hp — probably close to 550 hp — from the twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 found in the regular Audi S6, S7, and S8. (Versions of that engine already produce 520 hp in the Audi S8 and 500 hp in the Bentley Continental GT.) The previous-generation RS6 Avant conjured 580 hp and 479 lb-ft from a twin-turbo 5.0-liter V-10.
Other upgrades for the new Audi are likely to include grippy carbon-ceramic brakes, and weight-saving carbon-fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) for components like the fenders or spoilers. The RS6 will almost certainly retain the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and Quattro all-wheel-drive layout seen in the little-brother S6.
Audi doesn’t sell an Avant version of the A6/S6 on our shores, but it’s possible the hot car could be sold here as a sedan – or, if the shoe fits, a variant of the A7 hatchback. At this point, we haven’t heard any confirmation that the RS4 or RS6 are destined for sale in the U.S., so these go-fast Audis could be relegated to the realm of foreign fantasy.
