Partnership is a wonderful thing. For purveyors of fine merchandise, co-branding allows for the opportunity to pair one’s interest with a familiar brand name. Automakers have taken advantage of co-branding opportunities, such as Eddie Bauer Fords and L.L. Bean-branded Subarus.
The latest partnership news comes from Mercedes-Benz’ ultimate luxury division, Maybach, which has joined with German eyewear producer IVKO to produce sunglasses. According to Maybach, the collection of glasses — which will include nine types of sunglasses and 10 rims — will evoke the styling and features of its ultraexclusive cars.
Materials such as leather, wood, and metal will be featured prominently, as will, of course, the Maybach logo. Taking the measure even further, IVKO will also produce a line of Maybach “Individual” glasses, with even more customization options.
Set to arrive in October, Maybach declined to offer a list price for the glasses. If the “stripper” Maybach’s base price of $368,750 is any indication, expect to pay dearly for these shades. Other manufacturers offer catalogs full of less expensive merchandise for enthusiasts who simply love their cars and brands.
