Set to debut at the upcoming Paris Motor Show, the next BMW 6 Series coupe looks to be a stunner, if the concepts preceding it are any indication. Today BMW also announced a production version of its Gran Coupe concept, essentially a four-door 6 Series. But are you interested?
Over the last decade, BMW has figured out ways to sell different variants of essentially the same model to hit various niches. Want a 5 Series but need room for one more? Try a 5 Series GT. Or maybe you want added ride height with some measure of cachet? The X5 fits the bill. And, until recently, wagon enthusiasts had their day, until BMW realized that American customers don’t seem to care for more expensive estates.
Based on the success of the coupe-like Mercedes-Benz CLS, BMW is betting that a stylish design will help move Gran Coupes in addition to the standard 6 Series coupes. Does a coupe cease to be a coupe, however, with an extra pair of doors? Is BMW cannibalizing its coupe lineup? Or does the added versatility in a stylish package make it a more attractive deal?
