Snap Judgment: American Top Gear or British Top Gear?

Top Gear Screen Shot

With the news that an American version of “Top Gear” is making steady progress and has released a trailer, we couldn’t help but draw comparisons between the two shows. Which one will you watch?

Our hopes are sky-high for a homegrown version of the show we’ve come to love over the past 15 seasons. We’re eager to see how the producers translate some of the show’s hallmark features for American audiences.

Will the Kia Forte make an appearance for Star in a Reasonably Priced Car? Will the Stig’s American cousin do all the driving? And will cars like the Pontiac Aztek finally have their place on the “Seriously Uncool” section of the Cool Wall?

We’re not asking you to make a commitment to only one show, but which will come out on top?

Today’s Snap Judgment:

British “Top Gear” or American “Top Gear?”

On that bombshell, let us know what you think in the comments section.

i have seen both and have been an avid fan of the UK version however, i think that the american version tries to hard to be like UK TG. They should come up with there own niche and make it work, the australian version does; why can’t we?

America will ruin this show, as they do most other shows that are not sitcoms. Take a look at BBC’s “Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares” compared to “Kitchen Nightmares” by Fox. The American versions are sensationalistic rubbish replete with manufactured drama, while the British versions maintain thoughtful, educational value. Keep it British.

British Top Gear FTW! I mean really? I’m willing to give USA TG a chance, but based on that trailer I’m not holding much hope for it.

I’m willing to give the American version a chance. I’ve always thought folks were expecting the UK version here for the states when, well, the U.S. is not a colony anymore ;-)

The British version will always be king in my opinion. The cast is excellent, its funny, entertaining, and always fun to watch. Plus they have a massive budget and can get away with the craziest things (like driving homemade superlong limos in London, or creating and driving their own RVs on public roads) . It’ll be hard for the American TG to match that, though I will watch both anyway.
