While lower production volumes may mean that there’s less opportunity for mistakes to get out the door, it also means that if one does escape, you can fix it pretty quick. Porsche and Suzuki are no doubt thankful for this fact as both recall relatively small numbers of troubled vehicles.
2011 Porsche Boxster Spyder
The Problem: Porsche is recalling a total of nine brand-spanking-new 2011 Boxster Spyders to fix a faulty latch on the convertible soft top. According to Porsche, the hook on the folding soft top may not engage properly with the latch on the top of the windshield, which could potentially lead to the roof suddenly coming open at high speeds. In addition to damaging the soft top, this could also lead to an accident.
The Fix: Porsche dealers will replace both the hook and the latch no questions asked and free of charge beginning this month. Contact your local Porsche dealer or Porsche at 1-800-545-8039. NHTSA Recall Campaign ID Number: 10V125000
Number of units potentially affected: 9
2010 Suzuki Equator
The Problem: Suzuki is also recalling a small number of vehicles, just 15 copies of the 2010 Equator compact pickup, for two separate problems with loose fasteners. First, fasteners holding the passenger front air bag may not have been tightened enough at the factory and could come loose. Should the airbag be loose during a collision, it could deploy improperly and fail to protect the front seat passenger properly. Suzuki has also found that the fasteners holding the steering shaft positioning bracket may not have been tightened enough either. Should the bracket come loose, it could lead to play in the steering column and steering wheel that could lead to an accident.
The Fix: Suzuki dealers will inspect both sets of fasteners, tighten any loose fasteners to their proper torque specifications and replace any missing fasteners free of charge. Suzuki has not yet released a timetable for the recall, but owners may contact the company at 1-800-934-0934. NHTSA Recall Campaign ID Number: 10V118000
Number of units potentially affected: 15
Note: Though no recall has been announced by Nissan yet, we expect a similar recall on fasteners to be reported in the near future for the 2010 Nissan Frontier, as the Frontier and the Equator are essentially identical under the sheet metal.
