Shelby Automobiles Unveils F-150 Super Snake, Turbo Mustang

Carroll Shelby is known for working with Ford to create some devilishly fast Mustangs, but one of his most recent projects was a truck. Shelby Automobiles unveiled its F-150 Super Snake and Shelby Turbo Mustang at its Las Vegas headquarters during the 2009 SEMA auto show.

The F-150 Super Snake is exactly what it sounds like: a truck inspired by the Mustang GT500 Super Snake. Available for any last-generation F-150 with the 5.4-liter V-8, Shelby’s kit transforms the F-series into a tire-shredding monster. If buyers opt for all the power upgrades (i.e. a supercharger and a Borla exhaust system), the F-150 Super Snake can pump out 475 hp. Shelby’s also modified the truck’s suspension, and added six-piston brake calipers to help reign the beast in to a complete stop.

Of course, Shelby added some show to mix with the go, and the F-150 receives a complete body kit patterned after its GT500 namesake. F-150 Super Snakes receive a functional hood scoop (which emulates the Mustang’s scoop), Super Snake badging, functional brake ducts, a custom front fascia, unique side-skirts, and 22-inch wheels.

If that’s not your cup of tea, the Shelby folk also used the SEMA show to unveil the new Turbo Mustang — one of the first Shelby Mustangs ever to use a turbocharger in lieu of a supercharger. Available on any 2005-2009 Mustang GT, the Turbo Mustang package bolts a Turbonetics turbocharger to the 5.4-liter V-8, boosting output to 550 hp. Better yet? It’s legal in all 50 states, and has been certified as CARB-compliant (crucial to owners in California).

The Turbo Mustang package, which also adds larger brakes, performance suspension parts, a short-throw shifter, custom hood, and unique 18-inch wheels, will run Mustang owners approximately $22,599. Shelby hasn’t released pricing for the F-150 Super Snake — the truck shown here is billed as a concept, but the Super Snake package will be offered to F-150 owners who so desire it.
