Every year there are a handful of vehicles that become the stars of the SEMA Show. To celebrate these standouts, show organizers have announced their “Hottest” awards for three categories: truck, 4×4, and car.
How does it work? SEMA officials count the number of registrations per vehicle ahead of the show’s grand opening, and the vehicle with the most booth representations wins. Each award goes to the Original Equipment Manufacturer (say, Ford, Chevrolet, etc.) and will be announced during the first show day, November 2.
Here’s an example on how it goes down: Last year the premier OEM sponsor was Ford (there is only one each year), but undoubtedly the hottest car at the show was the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro — it occupied nearly every major brand’s booth. As a result, Chevy would win the “Hottest Car” category.
SEMA hopes the new program will entice OEMs to work more with aftermarket brands for the promotion of each other’s products. It could possibly lead to shorter lead times for accessories, too. OEMs could also theoretically compete with each other to get their newest models in the booths of aftermarket manufacturers.
What do you think will be the “hottest” truck, 4×4, and car at this year’s show?
