Second Teaser Shot of 2012 Toyota Camry Released

Toyota has released a second teaser photo of the 2012 Toyota Camry today. Last week, the automaker released a photo, which appears to be the front end of the upcoming Camry SE model.

The second Twitpic released today moves around to the back for a close up of the taillight which, like the headlight, sports sharper styling. Complete and official photos should arrive later this year when Toyota finally shows it off to the public. So far, it appears that the new sheet metal is more evolutionary than anything else. What do you think?

Seemingly, the main difference between fetching design and Toyota design lies in the realm of creating compelling lines and shapes that complement each other, make logical sense from an aesthetic perspective, and combine to form an understandable whole. After seeing photos of the full prototype Camry, it's almost as if Toyota assigns different elements of the car – the taillight, the C-pillar, the front fascia – to different designers and hopes for the best, with a weak overall vision or person to guide the designers as well as demand more from the engineers. The taillights are underdeveloped. The overall form is nebulous, as are the details. The fundamental thrust of this company – its love and passion – is clearly focused on creating as nondescript a product as possible. In this new age of uniquely-designed (and comparably reliable) Hyundai Sonatas, Ford Fusions, and forthcoming Chevrolet Malibus, faith in the Toyota brand may falter.

Hardly a point to putting a teaser of the new Camry on the internet -what's the average age of a Camry owner? Even from that tail light, It's obvious they have nothing to go up against the Sonata.

The lack of any comment since the feature was posted shows you how much interest there is in this reliable, but dull automobile. I've seen some spy shots of the complete car and wonder when is Toyota, Nissan and Honda going to wake up from their styling stupors. However, there are people out there who like what they see and know the Camry is reliable and comfortable--which it certainly is. Yes, evolutionary, nothing to get excited about. So stop the teasing, we all know what's coming.
