Anyone who’s been in the late-model Mustang performance scene for any part of the last two decades knows the name Roush. The latest Mustang GT and its twin-cam 5.0 offers outstanding performance and bang-for-the-buck right off the showroom floor, but Roush has seen fit to take the performance a step further. The company has announced its Stage 3 performance package for the 2012 Mustang GT. Starting with a base GT, the Stage 3 package adds an automatic $16,800 to the bottom line. If that seems like a stiff sticker for upgrades, keep in mind at that price it’s still more than $2000 cheaper than a Shelby GT 500. However, if you’re really feeling in an indulgent mood, Roush offers more than $13,000 in available additional upgrades, allowing for a hypothetical total of more than $60,000.
Although the Roush’s 540 horsepower pales in comparison to the Shelby Super Snake’s 800, the Stage 3 offers one significant advantage over Caroll’s beast, a 3 year, 36,000 mile full powertrain warranty. The Super Snake? None. That’s right, one too many aggressive clutch dumps or over-revs, and you’re screwed. Of course, wanton abuse could probably get you a warranty denial from Roush too, but at least you can make a case. The Snake is case-closed before you even start.
Whether you’re one to go low-key, or want to make a big impression, Roush has you covered with more than 288 possible color and graphics combinations. The performance brakes offer the option of three different caliper paint colors, red, gray or black, and the choice of Hyper-Black or Chrome 20-inch wheels.
