After 25 years with the BMW Group, Tom Purves — currently CEO of Rolls-Royce — will retire in March. BMW announced today that it was appointing Torsten Müller-Ötvös as his successor.
Müller-Ötvös has more than 20 years of marketing and brand management experience with BMW and Mini. His most notable responsibilities included acting as Mini brand leader from 2000 through 2003. In 2004 he was the central marketing and brand manager for BMW. Four years later, Müller-Ötvös was appointed BMW global product manager. Former CEO and now Rolls-Royce Chairman Ian Robertson will be Müller-Ötvös’ direct supervisor.
Purves began his career with Rolls-Royce as an apprentice when the brand was still located in Crewe, England. In 1985, he joined the BMW Group, and was ultimately appointed the CEO of BMW North America in 1999. In the spring of 2008, he returned to Rolls Royce in Goodwood and continued to expand the brand and its product portfolio.
