Reported: Forthcoming RWD Subaru Coupe Takes Shape

Toyota Ft 86 Front Quarter

Details may be sketchy about Toyota’s planned production version of its FT-86 concept car, part of a joint collaboration on a rear-wheel-drive coupe between Toyota and Subaru. Motor Trend has obtained information and a sketch of Subaru’s side of the deal.

Motor Trend reports that the coupe will share a reworked Subaru Legacy’s platform, but use the rear suspension of the Impreza. The Impreza’s 2.0-liter four-cylinder boxer engine, shared between the cars, is reported to produce up to 260 horsepower in Subaru’s version. The sketch shows the potential coupe decked out in Subaru’s blue and gold rally livery.

Although we’ve reported on the Toyota coupe before, including a potential convertible, the high cost of development, and a full-out design analysis of the concept, this is the first time we’ve heard specifics on Subaru’s part of the deal.

I must admit it’s super sexy, but why does Toyota have to be a part of it. Then again I guess if they didn’t it would have turned out ugly  . We all know that sometimes Subaru turns out some horrible looking models. This is one of the best Subaru badges ever made.
