Toyota’s sales gain of 40 percent in March was no accident. It was largely the result of an aggressive sales incentive campaign targeted at winning back American buyers and keeping money flowing into the company. Now, desperate to keep new models flying out of showrooms, Toyota will reportedly extend its hot March deals through the end of April.
As in March, the program will continue to offer discounted leases on eight vehicles and zero-percent financing on six vehicles. A two-year free maintenance program, previously offered only to returning Toyota customers, is slated to be expanded to all purchasers of a new Toyota.
Toyota likely needs to do whatever it can to keep sales high, both to restore its corporate image as a value and safety leader, and to bring in profits to help pay for the $16.4 million worth of fines the NHTSA is currently pursuing against the automaker.
