Get ready for a 600-hp Lamborghini Gallardo replacement. A new report from Auto Express says that Lamborghini will introduce the Cabrera early next year before it goes on sale in late 2014.
Although we previously reported the Lamborghini Cabrera would debut at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show, it looks like the car’s debut has been pushed back. Nonetheless, we’re told the new Lamborghini will still be twinned with the second-generation Audi R8. For the Lamborghini, AE says to expect a 5.2-liter V-10 engine delivering as much as 600 hp. A new seven-speed dual-clutch automatic will be available alongside the six-speed manual, and Lamborghini will produce both rear- and all-wheel-drive versions of the Cabrera.
The new Lamborghini, codenamed PL724, will reportedly be slightly longer and wider than the current Gallardo (pictured), and extensive use of aluminum and carbon fiber will trim its weight, perhaps putting it below 2900 pounds for rear-wheel-drive variants. The next Audi R8, incidentally, will use the same chassis as the Lamborghini, but will offer both V-8 and V-10 engines.
After the Lamborghini Cabrera coupe launches next year, AE reports that a Spyder model will follow in 2015. It will have the same engine and transmission, and shouldn’t weigh any more than the Lamborghini coupe.
