2007-2013 Toyota FJ Cruiser
The Problem: Models equipped with the optional Toyota Auxiliary Driving Lamp kit are brighter than allowed by federal law. Because of the way the 55-watt, add-on driving lights are angled, they are too bright when combined with the output from the FJ Cruiser’s factory headlights. That could dazzle oncoming drivers, potentially causing a crash.
The Fix: Toyota will replace the 55-watt driving light bulbs with 35-watt bulbs for free, and will install new mounting brackets that re-orient the light beams. The recall starts later this month.
Number Of Vehicles Potentially Affected: 11,489 2007-2013 Toyota FJ Cruiser SUVs.
2013 Mercedes-Benz GL-Class
The Problem: A problem with the power screwdrivers used during manufacturing means some Mercedes-Benz GL-Class SUVs may have been built with the second-row seatbelt anchors incorrectly tightened. The bolts may not be tight enough and could, over time and with vibration from normal use, come so loose that the seatbelt could fail.
The Fix: Mercedes will check and tighten the torque of all seatbelt bolts on affected GL-Class models.
Number Of Vehicles Potentially Affected: 272 2013 Mercedes-Benz GL350 BlueTec, GL450, GL550, and GL63 AMG SUVs.
2012-2013 Chevrolet Malibu Eco, Buick LaCrosse eAssist, Buick Regal eAssist
The Problem: The generator control module, which is located in the trunk, could fail over time. At first this would simply prevent the car’s battery from charging properly and illuminate warning lights on the dashboard. Eventually, however, the module could overheat, causing a melting smell and potentially starting a fire. General Motors is aware of two trunk fires due to this problem; the affected cars had fewer than 1000 miles on the odometer.
The Fix: GM will replace the generator control module for free.
Number Of Vehicles Potentially Affected: 38,197 2012-2013 Malibu Eco, LaCrosse eAssist, and Regal eAssist sedans built before December 2012.
