Last week, we told you that Audi is preparing an A5-based touring car for Germany’s DTM (Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters) race series, but couldn’t share any pictures of the car. While there are still no real photos, Audi has at least issued some teaser sketches of the upcoming A5 DTM.
The A5 DTM concept has been fitted with wings, diffusers, and flared fenders to ready it for race duty. Race suspension means the A5 sits lower to the ground, with massive wheels hiding enlarged brake discs. The red-on-gray paint scheme looks particularly cool, though it will indubitably be covered with sponsorship decals by the time the car reaches the racetrack.
Audi has won the DTM title four times since 2004, and hopes to continue that success with the new car. The A5 coupe replaces Audi’s successful A4 sedan DTM car. The new ride, dubbed R17, packs a 460-hp wallop from a race-spec V-8 engine. It will go on display at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September before campaigning in DTM in 2012.
