Subaru has revealed how much buyers need pay for its new off-road-capable XV Crosstrek. The 2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek starts at $22,745 (including a $750 destination charge) in the Premium trim level, while the Limited trim costs $25,245.
Subaru introduced the XV Crosstrek in the U.S. at the New York auto show, with Subaru vice president Thomas Doll explaining then that the company had found “a gap for a small Subaru crossover in our lineup.” The XV Crosstrek is meant to fill that gap. Though based on the Subaru Impreza hatchback, the XV Crosstrek has raised suspension and some butch body cladding to make it a little more rugged. It’s essentially the successor to the two-tone Outback Sport that was sold a few years ago.
The pricing scheme reflects the fact that even the XV Crosstrek Premium has lots of standard equipment: a Bluetooth and iPod-capable sound system, air conditioning, cargo hooks, heated seats, roof rails, and more. Upgrading to the Limited model adds automatic headlights, automatic climate control, a backup camera, and leather seats. Options comprise a moonroof and a navigation system.
Both versions come standard with a 2.0-liter flat-four engine that produces 148 hp and 145 lb-ft of torque, sent through Subaru’s all-wheel-drive system. The XV Crosstrek Premium comes with a five-speed manual transmission, and a continuously variable transmission is an option. The Limited model is only available with the CVT.
The XV Crosstrek fits in price-wise between the Impreza, on which it is based, and the larger Forester. The 2012 Subaru Impreza hatchback starts at $18,745, although a Premium model that’s similarly equipped to the base XV Crosstrek costs $20,045, making the Impreza $2700 cheaper than the XV. The 2012 Subaru Forester starts at $21,370, although the Premium trim level costs $24,070, or $1325 more than the XV Crosstrek Premium.
The 2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek will be in dealerships nationwide by mid-September.
