GM’s new product confidence offer lets buyers decide between $500 cash or the option of a 60-day return policy.

Dealers love the new promotion but think most consumers will opt for the $500 cash offer. “If they like the car, if they test-drive the car, most of the people would rather have a car to keep,” Tom Durant said, owner of six GM dealerships in Texas and Florida.

It seems that some sales people are offering the $500 to sell the car, completely missing the point dealer Chris Haydocy told Automotive News. Hadocy also said “our salespeople are not permitted to talk about the $500. That is going to be disclosed in the business office.”

It seems that GM needs to convey to their dealers that the whole purpose of the program is to promote confidence and staying power. In order for the “best car “to win, consumers must know if they do not like the car they can simply return it.

There are some restrictions to GM’s latest offer. The vehicle must have been in possession for at least 30 days and no more than 60. Less than 4000 miles on the odometer, no more than $200 in damage, and the vehicle can’t have been involved in an accident. Trade-in vehicles can’t be reclaimed and the only fee that can be refunded is sales tax.

All the paperwork for a returned car is sure to be a headache, but we’re sure GM dealerships are excited for the new program.
