Following an upswing in luxury car sales in the U.S., Europe, and China, Germany’s luxury automakers aren’t working for the weekend — they’re working on the weekend, increasing summer production. According to Bloomberg, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, and BMW are among the manufacturers adding weekend shifts and hiring temporary workers to meet increased demand for premium products.
A sign that a worldwide “luxury crisis” might be coming to an end, each manufacturer is taking the necessary steps to keep its customers satisfied. Audi plans to add temporary workers to keep up with the need for A8s and R8s, as well as prepare for the launch of its premium A7. Earlier this week, we reported that the BMW 5 Series is sold out in markets across the globe. And Mercedes-Benz, which has seen increased demand across its product line from the small A- and B-class to the top-level S-class — and even the SLS halo car — has added Saturday shifts for several of its plants.
“The demand for our products is developing very positively,” said Mercedes-Benz spokesperson Dominique Albrecht.
The demand comes as the manufacturers are taking steps to green their product line and increase global sales.
Each manufacturer has seen double-digit percentage increases in sales as of this May. These numbers stand in stark contrast to 2009, when the double digits referred to slowing or cutting production.
