The daughter of Senator Bob Corker had her Chevrolet Tahoe stolen Wednesday evening. The thief conned Julia Corker into stopping her vehicle, then proceeded to open the door and throw her out of the vehicle.
Following the confrontation, the family immediately notified the police and then contacted the OnStar service. Within hours the vehicle was located in Maryland and the suspect was taken into custody. “It’s pretty incredible how quickly they were able to apprehend,” noted the Senator. The carjacking took place near the capitol building in Washington, D.C.
Sen. Corker admitted he’s wanted to cancel the service for months, but kept it just in case it was ever needed. The senator repeatedly balked at the price of the service “I was telling the lady who handles that for me in Chattanooga, each month I was saying, ‘I don’t want to pay this, I don’t want to pay this,’” Corker told CNN. “Certainly, it paid off tremendously last night.”
In the wake of all its recent shakeups, General Motors can certainly use a bit of unsolicited endorsement. OnStar utilizes GPS and cellular technology for safety and concierge-type services. Available on most GM vehicles, the service starts at $18.95 a month.
