Yes, Virginia, the 2011 Jeep Wrangler Mojave is yet another paint-and-tape dress-up package for the existing Wrangler Unlimited. No matter — according to Jeep brand CEO Michael Manley, Jeep fans tend to enjoy them. In fact, the three special-edition Wranglers launched last year (Islander, Mountain, and Call of Duty: Black Ops) reportedly were met with considerable interest from consumers.
These dress-up packages are relatively inexpensive to produce, and if they boost both interest and sales figures for the Wrangler, well, no harm done. It’s not surprising, then, that Jeep’s rolling out yet another special edition model.
Apart from the larger 17-inch wheel/32-inch tire package cribbed from the Wrangler Rubicon, the Mojave is mechanically no different than any other Wrangler Unlimited. Cosmetically, it certainly does. Mojave models — which are available only in Sahara Tan, Bright White, and Black exterior paint — receive black tail lamp guards, a black fuel filler door, a matte black hood graphic, unique Mojave lettering on the driver’s side front fender, and artistic lizard graphics on the hood and next to the rear liftgate.
Those same geckos appear inside, where they’re embroidered into the saddle-colored leather on the front seats. Other interior garnishes include driftwood accents on the steering wheel, center console, and grab handle, and both floor mats and grab handles snatched from Mopar’s aftermarket accessories catalog.
