The 500c keeps the framed doors and roof rails, creating an open-air experience with a cloth top running the length of the roof panel and rear backlight. When the top is open, it folds neatly behind the rear headrests; when closed, the 500c maintains an almost identical profile to the hatchback.
Powering the new drop-top will be the same 101-horsepower 1.4-liter I-4 found in the hard-topped model; a five-speed manual will be standard, with a six-speed automatic as optional. Two versions of the 500c will be offered — the base-level Pop and the top-line Lounge trims.
The 500c will arrive in Fiat dealerships later this spring, starting at $20,000 with the $500, with the destination fee included, for a 500c Pop. For the more heavily-optioned Lounge, it will run an additional $4000 over the Pop. At those low prices and with seating for four, we’re just about ready to pack the SPF and head to the beach with our friends.
