The latest version of Honda’s automotive driving simulator gives people who are learning how to drive a chance to experiment without worrying about crashing into other vehicles.
Since 2001, 200 of the driving simulators have been sold in Japan and other countries. Honda wants to sell 30 of these units this year, a goal that the automaker hopes will be attainable with the simulator’s new additions and a new bargain model.
By bargain, though, we mean just under $70,000 (at current exchange rates, including Japanese taxes). If that two-axis motion model isn’t good enough for you, step up to the $105,000 six-axis motion simulator. Either way, you’ll be using what appears to be the steering wheel of the American Honda Accord on a high-definition 42-inch LCD display.
Once students have mastered the basic Day mode, there’s Night mode, Fog mode, and Highway experience version to make driving conditions a bit more difficult. Alongside the automobile simulator, Honda also makes motorcycle and bicycle simulators. In October of last year, Honda said it hoped to sell 500 of the bicycle simulators (shown here), which will sell for about $8200 in Japan.
A touch-panel monitor is also new to the latest version of the automotive driving simulator, though there’s no word on how many (if any) of the new models will make it to the U.S.
