“Motorcity” is a new animated series slated for the The Disney Channel about a group of teenagers fighting an evil billionaire for their rights to own cars. The series takes place in the subterranean refuge of Motorcity, which sits below the futuristic city of Detroit Deluxe.
Known as “The Burners,” the teenage rebels are led by 17-year-old Mike Chilton against Abraham Kane, the evil billionaire owner of Detroit Deluxe, who has banned all personal freedoms—including automobile ownership. The Burners modify their hot rods to protect their haven from Kane, who wants to stamp out car ownership in Motorcity.
While the teenage rebels seem to be influenced by the “Fast and Furious” franchise, the battle scenes seem to combine the feel of “Tron” and “The Matrix.” Chilton drives what appears to be a highly-modified Plymouth Super Bird complete with a skull shifter and “maze” shifter pattern.
“Motorcity” was created by Chris Prynoski, who also produces and directs the animated series. Many of the vehicles in “Motorcity” are the creation of vehicle designer Brandon Cuellar. Prynoski made his name working on “Beavis and Butthead” for MTV and “Metalocalypse” for Adult Swim, among other endeavors. Cuellar interned with Renault while studying transportation design and worked with video games and films before working on “Metalocalypse.”
