2010 Ford Mustang As Part Of The Mustang '10 Unleashed Campaign

To promote the 2010 Mustang, Ford’s Mustang Unleashed campaign has helped a blind man drive a new Mustang, an 18-year-old challenge his shop teacher on a drag strip, and a drift racer compete in Japan. Now it’s managed to pit some of the best video game players against one another for a chance to do some real racing at Willow Springs Raceway in California.

“The whole point of the Mustang Unleashed Campaign is to intersect the passions of our lifelong Mustang lovers with their most creative, wildest, most impossible dreams,” said Steve Ling, car group marketing manager at Ford.

The competition started digitally. Need for Speed: Shift players were challenged to set the best lap times on a virtual Willow Springs course in a virtual Mustang GT. After determining the four fastest drivers in cyberspace, Ford brought them into the real world.

With the help of Fast Lane Driving School instructors, the four gamers took to the track to learn the sport of auto racing. A hot lap challenge ensued yet again, and the driver with the lowest total time from the game and track won bragging rights (sadly, not an actual Mustang).

Check out video of the competition at the Mustang ’10 Unleashed website.
