Acura Crossover Concept Side

Monday we told you that Acura would be unveiling a new car at the 2009 New York auto show. To drum up interest, the company had intended to release one new teaser shot of the car each day. However, with some careful snooping on Acura’s site we are able to bring you the remaining photos.

In these dark shots lies the latest vehicle from Acura. As we can see, it is a crossover with a four-door coupe-like design with wide haunches similar to the BMW X6. The roof line slopes dramatically in the rear to suggest this crossover supports form over function. Slanted outlines of the front and rear lights undoubtedly indicate the face will receive Acura beak-like shield grille while the tail end will be pointed much like the rear of the new TL.

The crossover is most likely based on the MDX. Power is rumored to come from the same 3.7-liter V-6 that makes 300 hp in the MDX. It’s a sure bet that SH-AWD (Super Handling All-Wheel Drive) will be employed to make sure that power meets the pavement. This model could have been the first to feature Acura’s new V-8 engine, but reports say that engine has been put on hold or scrapped for now.

Acura still hasn’t released any official information on the crossover to accompany the pictures. Nevertheless, the company will likely post a release sometime before the vehicle’s debut in at the New York auto show in April.

These images give me hope that this will be more of a 4-door coupe than a CUV. It does seem to be sleeker and lower to the ground than an X6, but that could all be a trick of the lighting.
