Hertz and Penske Racing have created a specially modified 2014 Ford Mustang GT that will be offered at certain airport rental-car locations starting this summer. It is designed to look like the Penske Racing cars that compete in the NASCAR Sprint Cup and Nationwide series.
The tweaked 2014 Ford Mustang GT joins the Hertz “Adrenaline” car collection, which also features sports cars like the Chevrolet Camaro SS, Chevrolet Corvette, and Dodge Challenger R/T. However, the special Hertz Penske GT has several upgrades that start with a new intake and exhaust, as well as a reprogrammed computer for the 5.0-liter V-8 engine. Brembo brakes, a more aggressive final drive ratio, and a stiffer suspension are also included.
As for visual upgrades, the Hertz Penske GT wears yellow racing stripes that match the livery of the aforementioned Penske Racing NASCAR cars, the front splitter from a Mustang Boss 302, and the rear diffuser from the Shelby GT500. On the inside, the Hertz GT benefits from Recaro bucket seats, limited edition display plaques, Hertz floor mats and door-sill plates, and MyFord Touch with navigation and a backup camera.
Hertz has a long history of offering unique, modified sports cars for rental. In the 1960s, the company launched the Shelby GT350H “Rent-a-Racer” in collaboration with the late Carroll Shelby, followed by a 40th anniversary Shelby GT-H in 2006. In 2009, Hertz launched a special-edition Chevrolet Corvette ZHZ rental car.
Hertz also now offers a Dream Service for its special collection of “Dream Cars.” Customers picking up one of the high-end rental cars from select airports will be greeted by a concierge and transported directly to the Hertz pick-up location. The Dream Car list comprises the Aston Martin V8 Vantage; Ferrari 430 Spider; Lamborghini Gallardo; Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG, E63 AMG, and SLS AMG; Nissan GT-R; and the Porsche 911, Boxster, Cayman, Cayenne, and Panamera.
