It’s hard to think of something more potent, speedier, and angrier than a brand-new 638-horsepower Chevrolet Corvette ZR1. It’s so hard and incomprehensible, in fact, that the Germans were the only ones crazy enough to try to top Bowling Green. Well, ladies and gents, they tried and succeeded — on paper, that is. Called the Tripple X, it’s built by tuner Tikt and packs a monstrous 758 horsepower thanks to a few choice tweaks.
How it came up with such a beast is an interesting story. First, the ZR1’s heart and soul, a 6.2-liter supercharged V-8, received a few substantial tweaks. Its cams, valve springs, seats and throttle body were all replaced with stronger, lighter versions. The Eaton supercharger’s PSI was upped to an undisclosed number and the exhaust tuned for a freer flow and deeper growl.
Next came a suspension retuning. Engineers left the rear leaf springs intact but replaced the standard magneto-rhelogical shocks with stiffer racing-spec iterations. The new shocks, along with revised wheel mounts, lowered the well-known speed bump scraper by nearly 2 inches. Each corner got lighter Zerra Ultralight Evo 2 wheels that reduce unsprung weight. “Brakes of suitable size” are charged with scrubbing off the tremendous momentum that’s guaranteed to arrive.
How speedy is the Tripple X? Well, Tikt didn’t reveal any performance numbers, nor did it say anything about expected retail price. But if you get the massive rear rubber to hook, chances are you’ll likely be thinking it’s worth every stinkin’ penny (or Euro).
