Mitsubishi To Reveal Concept G4 Sedan In Bangkok

Later this month, Mitsubishi will use the Bangkok International Motor Show to reveal its Concept G4. With a name that means “Global 4-door sedan,” the concept is intended to preview the next Mitsubishi small car.

The G4 probably previews a sedan version of the new Mitsubishi Mirage. Already sold as a five-door hatchback, the subcompact Mirage will even be sold in Canada, and may eventually come to the U.S. as a Chevrolet Spark rival. Mitsubishi says the concept car provides good maneuverability, plentiful interior room, and high fuel economy resulting from low weight and drag.

The Concept G4 has swept-back styling and a somewhat coupe-like falling roofline, with big headlights lined by LEDs, and a wide front grille. In fact, there’s more than a passing resemblance to the Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class. It uses a 1.2-liter inline-three engine and continuously variable transmission, the same powertrain as is available in the Mirage.

If the Concept G4 does debut as a sedan, it could prove more successful in markets where hatchbacks tend not to sell well — China and the U.S., for instance.
