Timed just after the European-model Mitsubishi ASX compact crossover made its debut at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show today, the Japanese automaker has dropped the first official details and photos of the North American version, to be called the 2011 Outlander Sport (also dubbed the RVR in its domestic market of Japan).
According to Mitsubishi, the four-door compact CUV will land in U.S. showrooms this fall after a North American debut at the 2010 New York Auto Show later this month. Ending much speculation about what will actually power the Outlander Sport in the U.S., Mitsubishi says just a single engine – the automaker’s 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline unit – will be available at launch, providing an average fuel economy figure of 30 mpg. Electronic all-wheel drive will also be available.
That’s all the information Mitsubishi is willing to divulge just yet regarding the 2010 Outlander Sport, but stay tuned for more info in the weeks leading up to the New York auto show, where we’ll be bringing you live coverage live from the show floor.
