We’ve yet to see the two-door Mini Coupe Concept in person, but Mini executives expect the car will receive a great response—and likely hit production.

“We think we have a good idea,” Jim McDowell, President of Mini USA, told Automotive News. “If there is a great response, as I predict there will be, I think you will see it going into production.”

McDowell thinks the Coupe Concept — which he describes as a “pretty radical Mini” — will lure more male buyers to the Mini brand.

In addition to possibly adding the Coupe to its production portfolio, Mini is also wrenching on a five-door crossover. McDowell says the crossover could possibly replace the Ford Explorer, reportedly a car many Mini owners also keep in their garages.

“[It] is big enough, more practical, and it has all-wheel-drive. It fulfills many of the functions of the Explorer in a much smaller package and still offers a lot of room.”
