Lotus plans to take the wraps off a high-performance version of the Evora at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Scheduled to debut Thursday, August 18, the Evora GTE Road Car Concept is meant to celebrate its racing progenitor.
The car’s inspiration comes from the Lotus Evora GTE, a dedicated race car that competes in GT2 and LMP2 race series around the world. The GTE Road Car will be a street-legal car based on the racer; the company warns that it’s not just a sticker-and-paint package, but “a serious race car that makes for a very serious road car.”
Lotus says the car will produce 420 hp but doesn’t specify an engine type; the actual GTE employs a 4.0-liter Toyota-Cosworth V-6 engine rated for 470 hp. Power is routed through an AMT sequential transmission. Lightweight, center-lock forged wheels are wrapped in sticky Pirelli P-Zero Corsa tires. From the outside, we spy a new rear spoiler, larger side air inlets, unique racing stripes, a new front fascia with larger air intakes, and the aforementioned forged alloy wheels. Given that this car comes from Lotus, it goes without saying we can expect improved brakes and sharper suspension.
Lotus hasn’t said whether this concept will give birth to a production version of the GT3 Road Car, but we’re crossing our fingers that will be the case. The company’s display at Pebble Beach will also host the Exige Matte Black Final Edition, a limited-run car celebrating (or commiserating?) the end of Lotus Exige and Elise sales in the U.S.
Look for more information once the car is unveiled later this week.
