One of the best parts attributes of the Jaguar XKR-S coupe is its 550-hp 5.0-liter supercharged V-8. When the go-pedal is mashed, the 5.0-liter engine sings through a quartet of oversized exhaust pipes like a choir of gasoline-fueled angels. Can it get better than that? Why yes, it can – Jaguar has just chopped the top off of the XKR-S and granted us mere mortals with the 2012 XKR-S Convertible. Talk about aural ecstasy.
Little has been changed from the coupe to the convertible – the same V-8 carries over, as does the six-speed automatic transmission that sends all 550 hp and 502 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels. Jag says that the rear wing is unique to, but we see little difference between the one here and on the coupe. The same 20-inch wheels carry over as well, helping to aid in grip and stylistic beauty.
Only a lucky few will be able to enjoy the topless delights of the XKR-S Convertible, though. The droptop is warranting a sky-high $6000 price increase over the coupe with a price tag of around $138,000, and anyway only 25 examples will be making their way stateside. We have little doubt that the XKR-S Convertible will sell out, and there will be 25 very lucky, very delighted customers.
