We can’t say we’ve heard of this marketing technique before, but Lexus is introducing its upcoming CT 200h premium compact hatchback with four days of debating on a highly controversial subject: global warming. The debates will feature speakers from both sides of the issue, along with a special group of moderators.
Dubbed ‘The Darker Side of Green,” the debate series will be waged on four separate days during the summer, beginning July 8. The likely-to-be-heated discussions will be held in major metropolitan areas, an ideal environment for the CT 200h, which Lexus is plugging as a true symbiosis of luxury and environmentally friendly technology.
Helping to kick off the CT 200h’s U.S. debut will be eight global warming specialists and a specially selected pool of high-profile moderators. Comedienne Sarah Silverman kept order during an earlier Lexus debate back in March, but this time around, the names include Andy Samberg, Jamie Kennedy, Tracy Morgan, and Mark McGrath. Mediators will be expected to keep the calm while pushing the debates to deeper waters.
“I mean, I don’t wanna say I EXPECT it to turn ugly, but if it did, I’m not gonna break it up,” said Samberg when queried about his debate. “It’s the only real way to know the truth about global warming.”
