Given today marks the 65th anniversary of the launch of the original Land Rover, it’s not too surprising to hear that Land Rover has concocted a celebratory special-edition Defender – arguably the lone Land Rover model that stays true to the original model.
Dubbed the Defender LXV – or, for those who don’t read Roman numerals, 65 – the special edition model is built upon a Defender 90 hard top. Only 65 examples will be manufactured, each painted Santorini Black with roof, grille, headlamp surrounds, and fascias painted in contrasting Corris Grey. Unique exterior badging includes LXV logos and, at the rear of the vehicle, a small Union Jack flag. 16-inch Sawtooth-pattern aluminum wheels are standard, replacing the typical five-spoke aluminum wheels.
Inside, the Defender LXV gains leather bucket seats with embossed headrests and orange contrast stitching. Matching contrast stitching is also used to accent the center console, steering wheel, and floormats.

Land Rover says it will build only 65 examples of the Defender LXV, each starting at £28,765 – roughly £4500 more than a standard Defender 90 hardtop. Much like the entire Defender range, none of these special-edition models will be sold in North America.
