While you probably thought this fad died out years ago, the Lambo-style door modification is apparently alive and well. German aftermarket company LSD-Doors has just launched its scissor door kit for the Toyota GT86, the European-market cousin of the Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ.
Installed on the GT86, the vertical doors don’t look all that bad. Getting the doors to appear as though they were equipped from the factory was one of LSD-Doors’ goals when it designed the kit, and the company strived to provide an “exact fit” with its adjustable roller guide system and use of the original door mounting points. A gas spring compensates for the weight of the door, and helps it stay in the up position. The company says kits for the Subaru BRZ and Scion FR-S are currently in development, which could mean we may soon see Toyobaru coupes sporting Lambo doors on this side of the pond.
In other GT86 news, Toyota will launch a model-specific racing class for the Toyota Motorsport GmbH (TMG) GT86 CS-V3 race car. Called the TMG GT86 Cup, the series will be run as a separate category of the existing VLN championship held at the Nürburgring. The class will award prizes to the top racers, with purse winnings totaling 50,000 euros (around $65,000). The TMG GT86 CS-V3 race car is eligible for competition in the Nürburgring 24 Hours, and costs 45,815 euros (roughly $59,300).
