Is This the Next-Generation Chevrolet Colorado?

Chevrolet Pickup Truck Patent Filing Front Three Quarters

We’re not sure. That’s certainly a Chevrolet nose grafted onto a small pickup truck, which gives some credence we may be looking at one possible exterior design for the next Colorado pickup.

Per the images, the regular cab truck is completely lacking in details but could, more importantly, lay the groundwork for a fresh new offering in the U.S. small truck scene. Unfortunately, the patent filings list the vehicle’s residency as Brazil — unsurprising, as GM once designated its Brazilian engineering staff as the lead design team for small trucks, but it may indicate the vehicle won’t be sold in North America.

Late in May, we reported that General Motors was rumored to be working on a new small truck that would truly be compact, rather than what is currently offered in the form of the midsize Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon. Should a small truck venture come to fruition, the unnamed Chevrolet would be closer in size to the old S-10 and GMC Sonoma combo last available nearly 10 years ago.

What do you think? Does the Equinox/Malibu-esque front end belong on a compact truck? Should GM make this truck available in the U.S.? Is there still hope for the small truck in North America?

GM really should build it IF it is going to be a compact. Right now, only the Ranger is near the compact size. The Colorado with a big V6 or small V8 would be ideal, especially the new DOHC V6 they put in the Camaro. I’d buy it.
