The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has named three new Top Safety Picks in its latest round of testing. The agency has named the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu Eco, 2012 Hyundai Azera, and 2012 Toyota Prius C Top Safety Picks.
To become a Top Safety Pick, a vehicle must receive the IIHS’ top rating in front, side, rollover, and rear impact crash evaluations.
The 2013 Chevy Malibu Eco’s Top Safety Pick places it alongside midsize sedan rivals like the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, Hyundai Sonata, Kia Optima, Ford Fusion, and Volkswagen Passat.
Like the Malibu Eco, many of the 2012 Hyundai Azera’s segment rivals have already earned Top Safety Pick awards including the Buick Lacrosse, Chrysler 300, Toyota Avalon, and Ford Taurus.
The 2012 Toyota Prius C joins the larger Prius cars including the original as well as the big-boy Prius V as IIHS Top Safety Picks. The Prius C isn’t the only compact hybrid with the designation; the Honda Insight and Honda CR-Z hybrids earned Top Safety Pick rankings earlier this year.
