We’ve seen the conceptual images but these photos of the Hyundai Genesis RMR PM580 are very real. The race-spec Genesis is set to do battle at the annual Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.
Piloted by Rhys Millen, the Le Mans Prototype lookalike has been revamped by the crew at Rhys Millen Racing to have a pass at the 10-minute barrier. A turbocharged 4.1-liter V-6 provides 775 horsepower and 750 pound-feet of torque, all managed by a semi-automatic transmission and sent to the ground via a custom all-wheel-drive system. The body is molded from carbon fiber, and an active center differential lets Millen adjust torque delivery on the fly, which is important when switching from hard to loose road surfaces and back on the windy, high-elevation Colorado course. The current Pikes Peak time record is 10 minutes and 1.408 seconds set by Suzuki driver Nobuhiro “Monster” Tajima.
After initially seeing renderings, we can now take a better look at the PM580. And while it looks good in its Red Bull livery and smooth bodywork, it will likely look a bit more worn by the end of the climb.
