Hennessey Corvette Z700 Engineering Heads to the Nürburgring
It seems Nürburgring lap times are the figures to quote for today’s performance cars. We’re not too surprised, then, to see Hennessy Performance Engineering plans on running its Z700–a tuned Corvette ZR1–around the ‘Ring.
With 638 hp available on tap, the stock Corvette ZR1 isn’t exactly a tame pony — in fact, it’s able to lap the Green Hell in a shockingly low 7 minutes and 26 seconds. Still, for those who crave more power — or, perhaps, an even lower ‘Ring time — Hennessey’s got the goods.
The Z700 package, which includes an upgraded supercharger, intake, and exhaust, bumps the Corvette’s power up to 705 hp and 717 lb-ft of torque. To help keep that power mated to the pavement, Hennessey fits the car with carbon fiber wheels shod with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup rubber, and adds a carbon fiber front splitter, canards, and a rear spoiler, addingmore than300 pounds of downforce when at speed.
The interior hasn’t been neglected—Z700 models receive a number of tweaks designed to cut weight. Both the steering wheel and shift knob are trimmed in Alcantara, while the stock seats are eschewed in favor of a pair of carbon fiber bucket seats
If this sounds like the best way to spend your hard-earned $207,150 — nearly $100,000 over a base ZR1 — Hennessy’s taking orders now for the 2010 model year. Expect Nürburgring times to emerge this fall.
